Behavioral Supports 2

The Behavioral Supports Program was founded in 2020 in order to better support the individuals that are in our care. The purpose of in-house behavior supports is to provide our individuals and staff more person-centered and consistent support.

Behaviors can occur at any time and it is important for the behaviors to be addressed as they are happening to ensure that education and evidence-based practices and intervention can take place at appropriate and reinforcing times to promote more positive behavioral displays in the future.

In the short time that the Behavior Supports Program has been developed, it has been able to provide services to individuals across many settings and programs including Residential, Semi-Independent, Lifesharing, Community Participation Supports and Vocational Programs.

The Behavior Supports Program at The Arc of Butler County conducts assessments, utilizes evidence-based practices and develops person-centered plans and goal motivated programming to increase the independence of the people in our care. The program works toward shaping and replacing challenging and maladaptive behaviors to increase function and independence for our individuals in their home, work, and community settings

“Beneath every behavior there is a feeling. And beneath every feeling there is a need. And when we meet that need, rather than focus on the behavior, we begin to deal with the cause and not the symptom.”
