Advocacy

For over 60 years, The Arc of Butler County has been advocating for families and self-advocates to ensure that:

  • Families have access to information, support, and advocacy
  • People with disabilities have access to quality education and community services
  • Policymakers and legislators are informed about disability issues
  • Ideas of self-determination, inclusion, and person-centered planning are the foundation of individual’s supports

The Arc of Butler County works hard to be an advocate for people with disabilities.

People with ID/DD and/or ASD may need support of advocates to: Know, Understand, and Assert Their Rights.

Our Advocacy also ensures individuals receive services needed. These include:

  • Support for parents/families to obtain early intervention services for newborn and preschool children.
  • Help with securing appropriate public school programs for school-aged children with special needs.
  • Assistance with the public school programs for transition from school to community bound services.
  • Aid to individuals and families in dealing with on-going challenges in life.
  • Systemic advocacy in cooperation with The Arc of Pennsylvania and The Arc of the United States.
  • General educational material regarding intellectual and developmental disabilities for the public.
  • Information related to the prevention of intellectual disabilities.
